Mathieu Berthon

Country: France

Mathieu Berthon (born 1984) is a French genre filmmaker working as a director, writer and editor. Rooted in DIY filmmaking, his work embraces raw energy, extreme imagery and cult cinema influences, drawing from action, horror and grindhouse traditions.
Driven by what he describes as “punch-in-the-face cinema,” Berthon creates uncompromising films that prioritize intensity, rhythm and visual impact over convention. His projects are often produced with minimal resources, guerrilla-style methods and a strong hands-on approach inherited from his background in film editing.
His films include the action-driven medium-length feature Le Réserviste (2012), as well as several short films and fake trailers that explore genre codes with irony and excess.
He has also collaborated internationally with the Montreal-based collective RKSS, directing a French installment of the cult project Ninja Eliminator. His work continues to circulate in genre and underground festivals, where his visceral style and love for cult cinema have earned him a distinctive voice within independent genre filmmaking.
