Yasemin Kevser

Country: Netherlands

Yasemin Kevser is a young director from Rotterdam. Her interest in filmmaking started with her passion for the theater and playing/directing plays (2010-2017). Here she developed her sensibility for performance, physical acting and comedy and her interest for costumes. She started with filmmaking at the Willem de Kooning Academy (2018-2023) in Rotterdam, where she studied audio-visual design. Her focus during her study was on experimental fiction films. In 2022 she did her internship at Boondocs, a documentary production company, and got more acquainted with the film industry. She also helped stylist Suze Kuit (2022) and after that continues to explore styling and art-direction. This skill she uses in her film work again, to create alluring and glamorous imagery. In her first short fiction film ‘Zure melk’ (2023) you will see all of her interests align.

May Kindred-Boothby

Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

May Kindred-Boothby is a Bristol based animation artist specialising in a variety of 2D hand-drawn, frame by frame methods. She graduated with a first class degree from her BA in Illustration at Brighton University in 2016 and since then has worked as a freelance animator and director for a wide range of projects and clients.

Her first major commission during this time was the short film I Have a Message For You, Directed by Matan Roschlitz. This was released as part of the New York Times Op Doc series and later went on to be nominated for an Emmy.

This started a period of predominantly working in animation for documentaries, creating sections of animation within larger films. During this time her work appeared mainly in shorts, feature films, BBC broadcasted programs and campaign videos. She soon became known in her field as someone who could tackle difficult subjects with imagination and sensitivity.

Alongside this she also made and directed music videos. Most notable are her numerous works for Cosmo Sheldrake. She used these as an opportunity to let out the wilder sides of her imagination. Often colourful and surreal, these were an important counterpoint to her more serious documentary work.

Wanting to take time out of commissions to grow her own artistic practice, she undertook the masters in animation at the RCA, which she has just completed. While there, she created her first independent short film The Eating of an Orange.

Now she has finished her MA she plans to continue telling stories that challenge norms through delicious and unsettling surrealism, and has already begun making moves to start working on her next project.
