Davar Villegas
Country: MexicoBorn in 1999, Davar Villegas has built his career within the landscape of independent cinema, moving fluidly between exhibition, curation and filmmaking. In recent years he has expanded his work into production, script supervision, screenwriting and directing, always driven by a creative vision rooted in extreme horror, gore, splatter and the darker branches of genre cinema.
Through his production company Mal de Ojo Media, he created his debut short film “Videogore”, a multiformat pseudo snuff experiment that broadened his international presence at industry platforms such as Blood Window and at film festivals outside Mexico. His work combines visceral imagery with psychological tension, exploring the limits of genre, experimentation and narrative transgression.
He is currently developing his first feature film “I Saw Myself Killing Someone” while also working on several projects that include comic books, short films and the creation of a film festival. His practice continues to expand the space for extreme and independent cinema, both through his own films and through the platforms he helps build.
